Blackwall and Silvertown tunnel charges

The new Silvertown Tunnel under the Thames will open on 7 April 2025, linking Silvertown to the Greenwich Peninsula in east London. The new tunnel will help to reduce congestion in and around the Blackwall Tunnel and will allow for better public transport links between both sides of the river.

From 7 April 2025, drivers will need to pay a charge to drive through Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels. This charge will help manage traffic levels across both tunnels, repay costs for building the new Silvertown tunnel and go towards maintenance and operation of the tunnel, as well as funding the increased public transport services available through the tunnels. Charges will apply for each crossing, in both directions, for both tunnels.

To help spread traffic levels more evenly and reduce congestion, a peak charge will apply during the busiest times (6:00 – 10:00 northbound and 16:00 – 19:00- southbound weekdays) . An off-peak charge applies at all other times and during the weekend, and is available to customers registered with Auto Pay. There is no charge to use the tunnel during evenings, from 22.00 to 06.00.
